Job Description

The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (“HKSI”) is the Government’s designated organisation to provide the high performance training system for eligible sports. The HKSI’s mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena benchmarked at Major Games results. We are now inviting suitable candidates for the following vacancy:

The Job

Reporting to the Sport Biomechanist of the Sports Biomechanics and Technology Centre, the Senior Sport Biomechanics Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To plan, conduct and co-ordinate various biomechanics testing for elite athletes;
  • To design testing protocols and instrumentation set up for sport-specific requirements;
  • To apply the collaborative research deliverables in elite training and provide refinement feedback to researcher partners;
  • To process and analyse the data from the motion, game analysis systems and kinetic measurement systems;
  • To provide skill and game tactics monitoring with qualitative and/or quantitative real-time feedback to coaches and athletes;
  • To prepare reports, interpret results and provide accessible and useable feedback to the coaches and relevant parties;
  • To supervise sub-ordinates’ work;
  • To provide both local and overseas on-field supports to elite sport teams;
  • To deliver educational lectures for coaches and athletes;
  • To assist in project planning and research; and
  • To perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by senior staff.

 

The Requirements

  • A Bachelor or higher degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, Engineering or related disciplines;
  • A minimum of four years relevant working experience preferably in sports science;
  • Good interpersonal and planning skills;
  • Good knowledge and experience in application and implementation of biomechanical analysis on athletes by using High Speed Motion Analysis System, Force/ Pressure measurement devices and Tactics Analysis System;
  • Capable to make use of the following applications:
    • Vicon, Dartfish and SportsCode to extract useful information from video;
    • Data manipulation by Excel Visual Basic;
    • Using various transducers to measure force, speed or acceleration of motion;
  • Able to work irregular hours and perform under pressure;
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Ability to speak Putonghua; and
  • Awareness/ knowledge of Child Protection in sport and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong are an added advantage.
