Women’s Lead Physiotherapist

Job Description

The role of Women’s Lead Physiotherapist is an integral component of the clubs’ medical provision and is structured to allow the successful applicant to work closely with the Saracens Mens medical teams.

The role will suit someone who is keen to learn and develop, with regular knowledge sharing across all divisions of the Saracens family to drive the high standards expected for the Medical team and Club as a whole.

The person would be able to add immediate value to the Women’s Performance Team whilst being confident, enthusiastic, personable and flexible in their management of their senior player caseload, including internationals, with the challenge of working with both contracted full time and part time athletes on a daily basis.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced physiotherapist to join the Saracens Performance team, working with the Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) squad. The post-holder will lead the structure and delivery of medical care and manage the treatment and therapy provision across the Women’s programme.

We are looking for a candidate with strong assessment, treatment and rehabilitation skills, who is also open minded to the continual enhancement and refinement of these skills. High level communication skills are required to ensure clear, succinct processes are developed whilst working with players, Saracens performance staff and international medical teams.

This position is managed by the Women’s Team Manager, but with clinical line management from the Head of Medical Services. This role is based primarily at StoneX Stadium in Barnet but also the training ground in St Albans, with travel required as necessary for player appointments, training and games.

Support and learning opportunities are available through discussion and regular in-service training to assist and direct development and meet CPD requirements.

Key Objectives –

  • To lead, structure and manage the physiotherapy provision on the Saracens Women Programme
  • To work collaboratively with other medical support staff, including Womens Team Doctor for the effective running of the medical department
  • Provide evidence based assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and prehabilitation programmes for women’s players
  • Organise and manage a player caseload effectively and efficiently
  • Provide pitch side medical care for women’s training sessions and fixtures
  • Communicate effectively, maintaining high professional standards, with Saracens Players, Performance Team and Line Management, regarding injury status, prognosis and management.
  • Lead of musculoskeletal screening / profiling of players
  • Coordination or prehabilitation / rehabilitation programmes in partnership with the strength and conditioning coaches.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all aspects of physiotherapy treatment, injury management and rehab content in keeping with HCPC & CSP, and RFU regulations.
  • Ensure appropriate ongoing player care via effective communication and feedback processes with other professionals e.g. international medical teams. Ensuring confidentially and GDPR regulations are met.
  • To act as the Women’s programme Clinical Governance Lead responsible for ensuring compliance with the RFU audit process
  • To manage and direct a team of part time clinicians, mentor student interns and support the Academy Pathway therapist through direct line management
  • Strive for the best standard of care and onward referral with management of own medical budget
  • Ability to work irregular, unsociable and flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • In collaboration with clinical line manager – to identify, drive and contribute to ongoing personal development. Identifying areas of programme enhancement as well as self improvement on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

BSc (Hons) degree Physiotherapy

  • HCPC and CSP registered
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in an elite sports club, elite sports environment or relevant similar experience
  • Experience in working within Women’s elite sport is preferred but not essential
  • PHICIS level 3 or equivalent current pitchside first aid qualification – or ability to complete this training
  • The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced disclosure check
  • Current, full and valid driving licence
