Job Description
Athletics NSW outlined in the 2022-26 Strategic Plan its intent to develop a Performance and Pathways Plan for aspiring elite athletes, coaches and officials. We have recently undertaken a major investment in a new business unit that will provide a comprehensive range of programs: Strength and Conditioning (S&C), Sports Science Sports Medicine (SSSM) services that can support NSW’s aspiring and pre-elite athletes and coaches (both able-bodied and para) to help achieve their full potential.
As an integral part of the Performance and Pathways team, we are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic S&C Coach to lead training sessions in our Performance Centre inside Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. The ideal candidate will be versatile in working with a large range of athletes from our Junior Development Program through pathways development into the elite stages of performance.
The successful candidate will have a passion and dedication for working in athlete development and will be required, but not limited to:
- Evaluate development and physical weaknesses that are addressed in a group training environment.
- Create a pathway for strength, speed, and skill development through strong coaching and program implementation
- Achieve consistent alignment with Athletics NSW planning, delivery & monitoring frameworks, and technology platforms.
- Offer specialized assistance to designated athletes by managing their strength and conditioning needs and monitoring activities during daily training, camps, and competitions as necessary.
- Liaise with external stakeholder including but not limited to parents/ carers, coaches, and medical professionals
Key Selection Criteria
- Undergraduate degree in Exercise, Health, Sport Science, Coaching or related field
- ASCA Associate Level 2 Coach or international equivalent
- Proven experience working in youth development
- Demonstrate an understanding of periodisation and planning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to professional development and knowledge in the areas of athletic preparation (physical), monitoring and recovery
- Level 1 Anti-Doping certificate (ASADA)
- First Aid and Resuscitation certificate
- Working with Children Check
The position is a permanent part-time role (20hrs / week).

- Human Movement / Coaching / Exercise / Sports Science Degree
- Current Provide/Perform CPR
- Level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coach
- Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
